Indian Railways Future 2030-Original Background Sounds
The railway ministers should focus on developing a vision for 2030 and start executing it NOW ! Its getting late. All the trains are over crowed, there is shortage of tracks and frieghts are suffering as well. We haven't grown the tracks much post independence. Aviation is always be expensive and people cant afford to spend 24 hrs on train journeys. What is required urgently is fast trains and dedicated corridors and even Melgev like trains for twin cities. The crucial files keep lying unattended at ministers' office for months- there is no vision, no strategy- and the need for more tracks, freight capacity and fast trains is now becoming CRITICAL!. Somebody please wake up these guys, the wait for tickets is getting unbearable and economy is suffering as well for want of better railway infrastructure.

Following independence in 1947, India inherited a decrepit rail network. About 40 per cent of the railways then passed through the newly independent republic of Pakistan. A large number of lines had to be rerouted through Indian territory, and new construction had to be undertaken. Underinvestment and unproductive management and maintenance practices have sharply curtailed growth in route length[citation needed]. A total of forty-two separate railway systems, including thirty-two lines owned by the former Indian princely states existed at the time of independence spanning a total of 55000 km. These were amalgamated into the Indian Railways. In 1951, the rail networks were abandoned in favour of zones. A total of six zones came into being in 1952. As India developed its economy, almost all railway production units started to be built indigenously. Broad Gauge became the standard, and the Railways began to electrify most lines to AC. In 1985, steam locomotives were phased out. Under Rajiv Gandhi, reforms in the railways were carried out. In 1987, computerisation of reservation first was carried out in Bombay and in 1989 the train numbers were standardised to four digits. In 1995 the entire railway reservation was computerised through the railway's intranet. In 1998, the Konkan Railway was opened, spanning difficult terrain through the Western Ghats. i had been standing in line for over 2 hrs...and as i handed over my form,he blasted"main cicular nahi banaaoonga"...i again n agian requested him but he didn't listen..so i just took out my cam and shot this following sequence..... it's amazing how a person ,when he's got a goverment job'loses respect for the person on the other side of the table(in this case other side of the window) why wouldn't he make my circular ticket????....because he had already made 22 tickets on 9 circular forms..(why the hell should it matter to me yaar)and his line was not moving forward at all... where's my fault here????I WAS IN THE LINE ALL THE TIME. i had just 1 reservation on my circular so it was no different from a regular reservation....so why did he not make my ticket was beyond me... and before my turn came , when i was behind in the line..one person just came from no where and entered in the line on 3 rd no. three-four of us protested but he wouldn't get out of the line and go to the end..... we even told this officer making the reservation ticket that this person had forcibly enered the line....but he didn't do anything..and ironically enough that person got made 3 tickets on a 'CIRCULAR' ...........................AMAZING na shaayad subah uthate hi maine sheesha dekh liya tha..
